Frequently Asked Flex Questions

What is the modem range?

Up to 3 miles Non-Line-of-Sight, up to 5 miles Line-of-Sight. Terrain, foliage and building construction can affect performance and signal availability. Different modems have different ranges and sensitivities.

What type of computer do I need? What operating system do I need? What kind of network card do I need? Will it work on my Mac/Linux/FreeBSD/Amiga/DEC Alpha/Model T?

We can configure the system to for almost any computer that can work on the Internet.  If your computer supports WiFi, we can configure a bridge between WiMAX and WiFi for home or business installations (certain hardware restrictions may apply and some additional hardware may be needed).

How do I know I can get service in my area?

We have computer-modeled maps that predict reception quality with high accuracy. If you can’t get service where we predict, you can return your modem for a full refund.

Will WiMAX work with my PS3/Xbox/Wii/etc.?

WiMAX provides a network connection. We can configure the modem to work with almost any networked device. Additional fees may apply.

What is your service area?

Central Columbia and Ashland. Let us know where you live and we’ll see if you fall into our coverage area?

Are there data caps? Overage fees?

Yes, but they’re generous. Yes, but they’re reasonable.

I don’t want to pay a monthly fee for the modem. Can I buy it to save money?

The modem can only be used on the Full Stream network so direct sale is not beneficial as it can not be re-used elsewhere. We can offer a discount on the modem for prepayment of the rent.

Are there any usage policies?

Yes, we have an Acceptable Usage Policy

Will WiMAX work if there is a power outage?

Your modem will need power. The network has emergency power.

How long before service gets slow just like DSL/Cable?

You have a dedicated wireless connection that is not shared like other connection types. We monitor network usage carefully to insure you receive great performance. DSL and Cable are restricted by older wire and cable installations that can create bottlenecks in a neighborhood – not a problem for wireless.

Can I use WiMAX on my home network? Will I be able to connect to my home network?

Yes. The modem only provides one connection to the Internet, but we can help you configure it to work on a WiFi router or a network to support multiple simultaneous users. You may want to disable WiMAX when you use your home WiFi depending upon a number of factors.

Can I use WiMAX on my work network? Will I be able to connect to my work network?

Yes. The modem only provides one connection to the Internet, but we can help you configure it to work on a WiFi router or a network to support multiple simultaneous users. You may want to disable WiMAX when you use your work WiFi depending upon a number of factors. Be sure to consult your IT manager before you make any changes to your systems.

Can I move the equipment once it’s installed?

Depends upon the modem type and your Service Level Agreement. The Motorola o450 is not designed to be moved after installation.

Will WiMAX support VOIP?

Yes, but we do not offer VOIP-specfic plans at this time. Our current plans should work fine for light personal use and with FaceTime, Skype, and other personal conferencing software. If you need business-class VOIP let me get your contact info and we’ll inform you when we’re running a promotion for that service.

How Secure is WiMAX?

Very. Only authorized devices can connect to the network, and every device has a fully-encrypted dedicated connection for all data services.

How many users can use my modem at the same time? Is sharing possible?

The modem only provides one connection to the Internet, but we can help you configure it to work on a WiFi router or a network to support multiple simultaneous users. Many laptops can share network connections with other devices.

How come your speed check URL gives different results than XYZ?

Ours is in our datacenter and ignores global Internet variables.

Do you provide installation?

Yes but some restriction may apply.

Why is the Internet so slow? You say WiMAX is faster.

We can measure the speed of our network, but we can’t control the performance of the Global Internet Cloud. We just make sure you can get to and from it as fast as we can.

Why can’t I use my Clear modem/Sprint phone/WiMAX laptop on your WiMAX network?

WiMAX standards provide a very high level of security and only authorized devices are allowed on a WiMAX network. WiMAX devices are configured at the factory to recognize specific networks. We are working on roaming agreements with other networks but they are not completed at this time.

Why is my connection speed fast some days and slow others?

If you move your system closer to a tower, performance will increase up to your plan speed limit. If you move farther from a tower it will go down.

Why does Billy get a faster connection than I do even when we’re in the same location? He’s using the same modem.

He may have a different service plan. Let me check yours and see if we offer an upgrade. Some computers are faster than others.

What is meant by monthly traffic? How is that different from my plan speed?

Your plan speed is how big a pipe you have for data. Monthly traffic is how much data you run through that pipe.

How can I check my connection speed?

Will I need a permit or zoning permission to install your modem or antenna?

If I need faster service can I upgrade? How long will that take?

We can upgrade your service with a phone call or email from you requesting the upgrade. Additional fees may apply. Generally we can perform the upgrade same day.

Can I use my modem in Kansas City or St. Louis?

We do not currently offer roaming services to other networks.

What is WiMAX?

“Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access”. It is an IP based Wireless Broadband Access Technology utilizing IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard.

My DSL/cable goes out a lot. How often will WiMAX go out?

Since there are no wires, there are no wires to fail. Your modem needs power to operate. Our network has battery and generator backup systems.

Is there a deposit for the modem?

Only on month-to-month plans.

Do I own the modem? Is it guaranteed?

The modem is owned by Full Stream, you rent it at an affordable rate. If it fails due to manufacturing defects we will replace it at no charge.

Why are there different types of modems?

We offer different modems for different usage types. Reception will vary with terrain and distance, and with any obstructing buildings or massive foliage.

How hard is it to install? How quick is it to install?

Depends upon what modem, location, configuration. Most installations take under ten minutes.

When I order service what do I get? What do I have to do?

We provide a modem and a user account for that modem. In most cases you can install the modem yourself, or we can do it for you for a small fee. No holes to drill, no wires to pull on most systems.

How long will it take to get service?

Depends upon what modem, location, payment method.

Will this work on my cellphone? My smartphone?

No. Your cell phone provider has a data plan for your smartphone. If your phone supports WiFi, we can configure a bridge between WiMAX and WiFi for home or business installations (certain hardware restrictions may apply and some additional hardware may be needed).

Can I watch TV or movies over WiMAX?

Hulu and Netflix work great. WiMAX does not replace Cable.
